Beer Wednesday – Rogue Mocha Porter
Happy Beer Wednesday!
This week, I’m happy to be bringing you a review of my very first beer made by Rogue, their Mocha Porter.
It was a really solid, tasty porter, but it was lacking in some of the coffee-and-chocolate flavor that I was hoping for when I read “mocha porter” on the label.
Don’t misunderstand me, it was tasty, with a richness and smooth finish. The nose was bright, without being harsh, the way some porters can be, but it was missing a finish.
The beer was rich, but not thick. Flavorful, without being muddy. Overall, I liked it quite a bit. Mini only complaint was the lack of mocha. Had it just bed a porter, I would have appreciated it more, overall.

good review
Glad you liked it. I do wish the beer had had more coffee and chocolate, though…
That’s the way I feel about most of their flavors. Great beer but it doesn’t live up to the flavor billing. I’ve got a chocolate stout waiting at home to try that I worry will be the same.
This is my first Rogue, and I’m a little dissappointed to hear that. I’ll have to try a few more. I have an Irish lager in my locker at the curling club for Friday, so we’ll see how that works out…
Yeah it’s not that they are bad, I like the beers. They just tend to not live up to what I want them to be. I always wanted the voodoo donut beer, but unfortunately it has bacon in it.
In a completely unrelated thought do you know if an individual can ship beer? I thought it might be cool to do an exchange.
Awesome idea. Unfortunately, I think it depends on where you live. I seem to think that you can’t ship alcohol from out of state in Maryland, but I’ll see if that applies to private shipments as well as sales.
Yeah, my research is showing me that it’s most likely illegal. Looks like many people use UPS to do it and just don’t really label the shipment. But it seems like my good idea, is probably not the greatest legal idea. Oh well, it was at least worth a thought.
yeah, mine says pretty much the same. Unfortunate, but so it goes. I may DM you on twitter with a slightly different idea though. Let me do a little digging first…
