Beer Wednesday – Flying Fish Exit 4

I grew up in New Jersey.

Go ahead, ask. You know you want to.

I know you want to.

“What exit?”

Believe me, I’ve heard it a million times. I went to collage in Pennsylvania, and now I live in Maryland, so yeah, I’ve heard that joke for years.

This week past Sunday, I posted about beer and pizza, and this Flying Fish Exit 4 (NOT the exit I grew up at) is the beer to that pizza.

Flying Fish, Exit 4, New Jersey beer, American Trippel, hoppy beer, vegan beer, vegan pizza, beer and pizza, veggie pizza

Called an “American Trippel,” this has a flavor like a rich American blonde ale, but a much smoother mouth feel.

I liked the smooth hoppiness that it carried, with forward notes of fruit and a hint of black pepper. It had great lacing on the glass, and a nice, firm head when poured. I had expected a richer color but the clarity doesn’t do the taste justice.

Usually, a beer this color is thin and missing a lot of flavor. I was really happy when I tasted this. I wasn’t ready for the richness of this beer, but I am really looking forward to the other bottle I have sitting on my counter, waiting for next Wednesday’s blog post. That exit is much closer to home…

  1. Mmm, Pizza and beer, was there ever a better combination? The pizza looks great, and I applaud the green beans on the side. 🙂 Way to stay healthy. Did you like the black pepper finish? I tend to not like the spicy finish on beers as that just makes you need more to drink. 😉

    • I couldn’t figure out the flavor for the finish, and a black pepper was as close as I could get. There was no spice, just the flavor, if that makes sense. Either way, I though t ti was good enough that I brought a bottle over to a buddy’s house last night also.

      I loved it. . .

  2. Yeah that totally makes sense. It sounds like it continues to go over well. Should I ever see it, I’ll grab a bottle. I love the Christmas season, all the more chances to share some good brews with some friends.
