Beer Wednesday – Magic Hat Seance

Happy Beer Wednesday!

This week I’m excited to review just the second Magic Hat brew I’ve had, their seasonal saison, Seance.

First, I’ve never seen a saison this dark. At first glance, it put me off just a little, but once I stuck my nose into the glass, I was nothing but impressed.

The nose is rich, with caramel and rich toasted malt notes, and the flavor followed up the nose beautifully.

It was rich and malty, with just the right hoppy overtones. None of the flat, boring almost-hops that I’ve gotten from some saisons, this ale was really delicious.

If I’m going to pick nits, and I am, then the malt tasted just a tiny bit burnt, and it had a tiny bit too much alcohol flavor to it. Overall though, a thouroughly delicious beer, and I’m happy to give this beer a 4/6 on my six-pack scale.
